Paris, 19 February 2010 – The Committee for Parliamentary and Public Relations of the European Security and Defence Assembly/Assembly of WEU is to go on a fact-finding mission to Luxembourg on 23 and 24 February 2010.
On 24 February, the Committee will be welcomed in the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies before taking part in a joint meeting with the Luxembourg Delegation to the ESDA and the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs and Defence of the Chamber of Deputies. The meeting will focus on interparliamentary cooperation on European defence.
During the mission, Committee members will also visit the Virtual Resource Centre for Knowledge about Europe (Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l'Europe or CVCE) at the Château de Sanem where they will be given a presentation on the multimedia file in the European NAvigator (ENA) digital library tracing the development of WEU over more than half a century: how it is organised, how it works, its activities and enlargements. The ENA digital library (
http://www.ena.lu), designed and built by the CVCE, today contains over 16 000 documents describing the European integration process.
The findings of this mission will be used as a basis for the following reports to be submitted by the Committee for Parliamentary and Public Relations at the Assembly’s 58th plenary session to be held in Paris (Palais d’Iéna) from Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17 June 2010:
